Cotton

  • Staple Length: Length of the cotton fibers, measured in millimeters or inches. Longer fibers are generally considered higher quality.
  • Strength: Measured as the force required to break a cotton fiber. Stronger fibers are desired for spinning finer yarns and making more durable fabrics.
  • Micronaire: Measure of the fiber fineness. Finer fibers are generally considered higher quality and are used for making softer and smoother fabrics.
  • Color: Natural cotton can range in color from white to light brown. Color is important for some end uses, such as producing white fabrics.
  • Uniformity: The consistency of the fiber properties within a sample. High uniformity is desirable for producing even and consistent yarns and fabrics.
